I will describe the influence that a paper written by Albert Einstein in 1935, on
some surprising aspects of Quantum Mechanics, continues to have. My talk
is aimed at a general math/physics audience and is NOT a technical presentation.
Some of the conceptual physics problems are translated into simpler mathematical
results and all of this is illustrated with the results of an experiment at a student lab
An effort to consider the questions raised by Einstein on "spooky action at a distance" has led, over the years, to topics of current technological interest such as
quantum versions of computing, cryptography and communication. This line of interdisciplinary research is being pushed very actively in many places including Shanghai.
