Title: The Baum-Connes conjecture and representations of discrete groups
In this lecture I will introduce that how BC conjecture helps us to deeply understand represenatations of discerete groups. First of all, we will see when the group is finite, the assembly maps in BC conjecture are just the dual maps of represeantation maps in Atiyah–Segal completion theorem. However, for any discrete group , the above result is far from trivial, and to tackle the problem we introduce a new pair between K homology group and K group, and it's expected that the new pair is continuous under the Atiyah-Segal completion topology.
