Title: Rotational representations of Markov chains
In 1981, Cohen conjectured that every Markov chain has a rotational representation. Alpern verified this conjecture in 1983. We introduce the proof of Alpern as well as certain concepts from cycle representations of Markov processes. We invite the audience to tackle the inhomogeneous and higher-order versions of the theorem of Alpern.
